Original Images

My photoshoots went just as I had planned and I got the photos I had hoped for to put in my magazine. The photos I got look quite professional and fit in well with the magazine's genre using mise-en-scene and different shot types. The models I used are all similar to the target audience in relation to age and race etc, making it relate to the target audience.

This image is well positioned and lit but one of my models is looking away. To solve this issue I could have warned them exactly when I was going to take the photograph. I used the Lewis and Camilla as models because they fit into the target audience well as they are Caucasian and both 17.  I think the black and white clothing works to represent my target audience because the look is trendy, indie and retro and fits Hall’s theory of young people being depressed as the colours are dull creating a moody tone.

Again this image looks very good but for some reason my model was not ready and he is moving the drumsticks. I could have told him exactly what to do and when to overcome this problem. I used a model of an age similar to the target audience who looked right for the indie genre. In terms of mise-en-scene I got him to wear all black and style his hair in a trendy hairstyle. I picked a Caucasian model because in Malik’s 1998 theory she states; “Whiteness has been naturalized,” and as I have a white target audience - as seen from my primary and secondary research – I did not want to do anything to disrupt this theory.

This image is good and has good lighting from the natural light. My only issue is the strand of hair that seems out of place, I could use photoshop to get rid of it if I had chosen to use the photo. I think this photo would attract the audience because it shows my model who has long hair and is wearing all black which is trendy. The photo also has a really cool background which gives a more urban/indie look which fits in well with the genre.
This is the photo I used on my cover. It is good because he is looking into the camera and the drumsticks are exactly where I wanted them to be. The drumsticks frame his face well and I got him to wear trendy clothes and have a popular hairstyle to relate well to the audience.
In this image I took it too early and my model was in the middle of a sentence. I actually did this on purpose thinking it might be a cool photo but as you can see, it didn't work very well. The fact he hasn't got a more plain expression means that it doesn't fit well with conventions and Hall's 1904 theory that Youths are depressed.
I like this photo, the lighting looks very good. The photo is taken from a bit of a angle so the wall isn't all at the same distance and that kind of ruins the image, if I was in front of the model properly then the photo would have been great. He has a long hairstyle and nose ring which is rebellious and supports Dick Hebdige's theory that 'Youths are fun and troublemakers'.
I took this photo as we were walking back from the photoshoot, it looks good apart from it wasn't in focus. If I was to take it again, I would have told the models to slow down so I had enough time to focus and take a better photo. This photo is unique but isn't conventional.
