To begin planning my Masthead I had to think of a name for my magazine which fit in with the theories and would attract my target audience. I chose the titles 'Newsic' and 'Noise' because they worked well, 'Newsic' being a portmanteau or combination of the words New and Music, and 'Noise' because youths are often told by parents and older people to turn that 'noise' down and it works well.
The first masthead I tried was in a basic font I found on Dafont, I got rid of the white background and layered it onto a black new layer. I then used a gradient to give it a more interesting look. I think this masthead looks bit too basic and boring.
The second masthead I did was with another basic font but I layered it over a white background and made it a deep red colour. I then gave it an embossed look and put a drop shadow to give it a layered look. I liked this masthead but think it may look better in another font.
This is the Masthead I chose to use on my magazine pages. It is quite conventional but simple and fits in with trends recently. The white colour contrasts against the red well and makes it eye-catching.
First I pasted the screenshot of the font 'Bebas Neue'.
Then I removed the background using the magic eraser tool.
Next I created a new blank background layer in the other tab on photoshop.
I then dragged the masthead onto the new layer using the move tool.
I then used the paint bucket tool to paint the background in the red colour.
I then used the paint bucket tool again with a white colour to fill in the letters because white contrasts against the red well.
I then cropped the whole thing to make the masthead.
